Numerology: The Basics

Numerology is a great tool to use for understanding cycles, including your own. It works on the premise that everything follows a cycle of 9 (years, months, and days).

A full numerology profile is a snapshot of who you were when you came into this world, and includes several different calculations (often called your core numbers). You can get a free profile through Seventh Life Path of about 20 pages. It calculates and describes your core numbers, as well as personal stages and pinnacles.

The Life Path is the single most important number. It describes your journey in this lifetime, the challenges you will encounter, and your ultimate purpose. It’s calculated by adding up the day, month, and year of your birth. Example: you were born on September 1st, 2002. 9/1/2002 = 9 + 1 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 2 = 14. Then, you keep reducing the final number until it is a single digit, like this: 14 = 1 + 4 = 5. You are a 5 life path.

The Expression number describes your personality (talents and weaknesses), and how you approach your Life Path. This is calculated using your full first recorded name (probably on a birth certificate), switching letters for numbers as follows:
Add all numbers, and keep reducing until you reach a single digit. The Seventh Life Path website has more information on “master numbers” (11, 22, 33) and how to recognize them; just click on the image above to go to their website.

The Solar number, as it is sometimes referred to, is another number I have found describes a person’s outward personality, or their façade. It is simply the day and month of birth. For example, if your birthday is March 5th: 3 + 5 = 8.

An astrological natal chart describes your potential, but not your current experience (you need transits and progressions). In numerology, your current step of the journey is determined by calculating your Personal Years and Months. Knowing what stage your are in of a 9-year or even 9-month cycle can help make sense of your present life experience, and help you plan with better timing.

The nice thing is that each flip of the calendar brings a fresh start!
