Progressed Moon in Gemini or 3rd House

Progressed Moon in Gemini or 3rd HouseThe Progressed Moon represents your current needs, relationships, and general emotional state. When your PR Moon sign or house changes, your needs evolve, and the shift from Taurus to Gemini or 2nd house to 3rd house shakes you up. You have new curiosity about your immediate environment. You switch from needing security to needing information. You are entering a period of communication (about 2.5 years for the Gemini progression, 1-4 years for the natal 3rd house progression, depending on its size).

Gemini is the third Zodiac sign, the school child who has left the security of home to learn. As an Air sign, Gemini needs social interaction, and when your PR Moon leaves Taurus or H2 and enters Gemini or H3, you become fascinated with the world. Gemini excels at reading, writing, and speaking, and this progression is a great time to take courses on information technology, English, foreign language, creative writing, poetry, social media, computer science, etc. Gemini is very dextrous, so now is a great time to learn things involving your hands: knitting, pottery, calligraphy, musical instruments, etc.

Taurus and Gemini are different energies. Taurus is ruled by Venus, focused on material things. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of information and communication. Taurus is subjective, Gemini is objective. During this progression, you’ll seek out people who are talkative and flexible. Gemini is a Mutable sign (and H3 a “Cadent house”) representing the change from Spring to Summer, so you become more adaptable and comfortable with change. You’ll want to get out of the house, talk to the neighbors, see what’s going on in your community, and take more short trips.

When PR Moon is in Gemini/H3, you can become too superficial. Gemini, like all Air signs, can lack emotion and empathy. Your need for light conversation can lead to gossip, which hurts people more sensitive than yourself. Gemini has a cruel streak, including mockery and mimic just for a few laughs, and has issues telling the truth, which is an abstract concept. Once you’re caught in a few lies, people don’t trust you, no matter how harmlessly they were meant. You’ll also need to be aware of developing attention deficit, mental illness, and nervous issues.

The Gemini lunar progression is easiest for people with natal Moon in an Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), and most challenging for those with natal Moon in another Mutable sign (Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). The 3rd house progression is a time of wanting to communicate, with a special emphasis on sibling/neighborhood relationships, writing, and entering into written contracts.

Tomorrow’s New Moon

Tomorrow's New MoonConfused about which option to choose? Tomorrow’s new Moon may pick it for you! The new Moon in Gemini accompanies a Grand Mutable Cross, which is a pattern of planets at odds with one another (like a cross). The Mutable signs – Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces – usually represent juggling choices, however, buzzkill Saturn’s involvement means most of them will fall through, if they haven’t already 😦

The new Moon occurs on Saturday, June 4th (at 14º Gemini). New Moons are beginnings, and Gemini represents information. Mars represents going out to get what you want, and Venus is attracting your desires. So this new Moon can bring appealing choices, but with Gemini, their beauty pretty much lies on the surface!

Saturn opposes the Gemini trio (from Sagittarius). Gemini is a light, airy sign that can’t stand to be weighed down by Saturn’s depressing energy. But Saturn also anchors Gemini, who can be unrealistic. This new Moon may be frustrating as you explore options only to have them dissolve, or make a decision and then come up against an immediate obstacle. But the options that weren’t realistic are falling away, and the right ones will be left standing. In the end, that’s a good thing!

Let’s finish out the Grand Cross. The new Moon-Saturn stand off is squared by another standoff: Jupiter in Virgo opposing Neptune in Pisces. Think of it like a boxing match, but instead of just two opponents in opposite corners, there are four opponents in each corner, staring each other down. In one corner, we have the Gemini trio, staring at mopey Saturn, and on the sides we’ve got massive Jupiter and dreamy Neptune.

Jupiter and Neptune don’t exactly work at odds with one another, even in opposition: they are just too friendly and similar. Both dislike boundaries, and try to expand or dissolve them. When the two are in aspect, they just egg each other on. Jupiter is a traveling party, and even in critical Virgo he’s pointing out all the positive details. Jupiter’s role in this new Moon is to present even more practical options to you. Neptune is a dreamer, and an idealist. In Pisces (her natural home), she’s oozing a rosy mist to fog over any harsh realities. Her role in this new Moon is to pump up your imagination and help you visualize a perfect situation.

Jupiter + Neptune are a little bothersome, because they are coming at you from the sides, multiplying choices and making reality hazy. They definitely work as a distracting team, but they also lend you some hope in the face of Saturn’s discouragement. So let yourself brainstorm this new Moon, because the less-than-stellar options will fall away by themselves. If you have to let go of a dream, maybe that dream wasn’t the best possible outcome for you in the long run?

A Sagittarius Full Moon: Truth vs Lies

A Sagittarius Full Moon: Truth vs Lies*A Mercury retrograde-related notice: After some evaluation, I will no longer be posting The Week Ahead or Weekly Horoscopes (archives are still available for old ones). Instead, more natal/progressive astrology and numerology material will be published, as I’m steering this blog away from just transits. Thank you!

Gemini season is coming up, starting on Friday, May 20th, so Happy Birthday to all you (crazy) Geminis! This sign’s symbol is the Twins, because you are very dualistic: happy face-sad face. You can change in the snap of a finger, and others never really know what a Gemini is thinking or feeling, because you don’t show the inner “twin”. What is under that mischievous exterior? (My mom would say nothing, but she – like most of the internet – loves to hate on Geminis!)

Geminis are like cats. They are endlessly curious (sometimes to their demise), cause lots of trouble, and yet seem to evade the consequences without much effort! Life is a game, and you really have to admire their ability to not take anything too seriously 😎 Although Geminis can drive other signs crazy, perhaps the one that handles it worst is Sagittarius (the Archer).

Sag is on a quest for the ultimate TRUTH of the universe – its arrow aims for the stars – and therefore, they have strong convictions about ethics. Gemini sees truth as an arbitrary concept, one that can easily bend and shape to any given situation. Where Gemini sees shades of grey, Sag sees black and white.

I bring up this polarity between the opposing signs because one day after the Sun moves into Gemini, there is a Full Moon in Sagittarius (Saturday, May 21st). The themes for this full moon are truth vs lies, and the bigger picture vs your daily life. Gemini represents the world around you and how you interact with it on a daily basis (a very microscopic view of the world), and Sag represents the opposite side of the world you’ve never seen, foreign cultures and concepts, and larger issues that put your own tiny life in perspective. Issues that may be revealed during this full moon include the consequences of gossip or lies, but also the bigger picture your own life and what you are aiming for.

The full moon is accompanied by an exact conjunction to Mars Rx at 1º Sag, which adds a spark to it. Sagittarius is an inspirational sign, and on the whole very optimistic, so follow your instincts during this full moon and take action when your gut tells you to. Gemini can intellectualize things too much (Air sign), but Sag is a Fire sign and it must feel its way through. One caveat: Sag can really put its foot in its mouth and blurt out hurtful things in the name of “honesty,” so if you get hot-headed, remember that your truth is not everyone’s truth.

Incidentally, the asteroid Vesta will be conjunct the Gemini Sun at 1º during this full moon, as well. Vesta represents devotion and sacrifice, and in Gemini, may involve a verbal or written project to which you are committed. Also, Gemini rules over siblings, so be cautious of blow-ups with your brothers or sisters this weekend!

Gemini First Quarter Moon

Gemini First Quarter MoonMarch 15th, the Moon reaches its first quarter, in the sign of Gemini. This is the halfway point between the Pisces Solar Eclipse on the 8th, and the Libra Lunar Eclipse on the 23rd. The Gemini first quarter Moon represents a quickening of ideas. This is the next phase, on the way to a Full Moon culmination.

The same day, two aspects are made by Gemini’s ruler, Mercury in Pisces:

Mercury sextiles Pluto (at 2:58am EST). This helpful aspect adds the power and structure of Pluto in Capricorn to Mercury’s thoughts and ideas, which can be hard to articulate in Pisces. Your fantasy will begin to take definitive, rational form, and you can also see the steps it will take to make it into a reality.

Mercury opposes Jupiter (at 5:41am). Jupiter magnifies details in the sign of Virgo. It puts pressure on intuitive Mercury with this hard aspect, to categorize and also classify information. An opposition is like a tug-of-war, and Jupiter is a large but happy opponent! This aspect can actually help you to define the small, attainable details of your vision, and point out what could use some improvement.

Gemini First Quarter Moon

This phase is about gathering information, and letting your curiosity grow. Now is a great time to collect bits and pieces of research on the internet, talking to the people around you, and getting inquisitive about your passion. You are moving out of the dark and into the light when you go from Pisces to Gemini: away from subjective and intuitive feelings, toward objective and rational thinking.

A large goal is easier when you break it down into small, bite-sized pieces, even if you’re not quite ready to jump into action. If you feel a bit scattered and like you are juggling too much information to act, wait until the beginning of Aries season, on March 20th. That will be when the inspiration to act comes upon you!

Mercury’s Path to the Crab

Mercury's Path to the CrabOn July 8th, Mercury enters Cancer. But before it gets there, it makes six major aspects from Gemini, hitting nearly every other planet. Because it moves so fast, aspects only last about a day:

Sunday, June 28: An uncomfortable inconjunct with Pluto; your multifaceted ideas and quick words don’t jive with a restrictive overlord (your boss? Company? Government?). Luckily, it’s the weekend!

Thursday, July 2: A workable sextile with Uranus in Aries. Ideas are lit up with originality, and possibly a bit of genius. Yes!

Friday, July 3: A painful square to Chiron Rx, followed by an opportunistic sextile with Jupiter. The first leaves you (or someone else) reeling when information or gossip strikes a nerve. The second provides a chance for ideas to expand/multiply, and a good time for creative writing.

Sunday, July 5: A lovely sextile to Venus gives you the benefit of charming words. Great time for loving conversations with friends and family, or writing poetic love notes…

Tuesday, July 7: The final aspect: an uncomfortable inconjunct to SaturnYou want to talk about things Saturn is sussing up in the Scorpio part of your chart, but your words sound trite and glib. Gemini isn’t on par with Scorpio’s need for deep intimacy.

Wednesday, July 8: Mercury joins Sun in Cancer, and begins a time of thinking subjectively/domestically, and expressing yourself with sensitivity. (This is a great time to talk to your mom, btw!)

Gemini New Moon

Gemini New MoonThe Gemini New Moon on June 16th is conjunct Mars (24º). New Moons are beginnings, and Gemini means juggling choices and information. With Mars in the mix, the energy is given a fiery boost: a just do it attitude.

In addition to the Sun, Moon, and Mars, Mercury retrograde is in Gemini; that’s a lot of mental activity, and your energy may be scattered as you figure out which seeds to plant. 25º Gemini in your chart is where new endeavors begin, possibly with a kick of sudden decisiveness. Ask yourself, “What do I need to communicate?” “How can I multi-task?” “What information do I need to organize and share?”

Same day as the New Moon, Venus in Leo forms an inconjunct with Neptune. A relationship compromise may be necessary, during this New Moon. Neptune comes into play again at the July 1st Capricorn Full Moon, forming a harmonious aspect to ease the tension between the Cancer Sun and Cappy Moon.

You may attempt many different things this New Moon. The Capricorn Full Moon will hone in on the few avenues that are realistic, and discard the rest.

Mercury Stations Direct

Mercury Stations DirectOn June 11th, Mercury stations direct, ending the retrograde period. Due to a square from Neptune, this has been a particularly confusing Mercury Rx; in fact, there have been a high amount of accidents during this retrograde.

We are still in the shadow period through June 27th:

May 4: Mercury direct entered the retrograde zone at 4º Gemini.
May 18: Mercury stationed retrograde at 13º Gemini.
June 11: Mercury stations direct at 4º Gemini.
June 27: Mercury leaves the retrograde zone at 13º Gemini.

The “shadow period” or retrograde zone is the range of degrees a planet forwards, backwards, and forwards again during a retrograde. So, from June 11 – 27, Mercury will moves forward through the degrees it previously hit (4º – 13º Gemini). What has required review in your life over the last several weeks? Look to Gemini in your chart. This is where you have developed a new, clear understanding.

If you have natal or progressed planets/angles/nodes from 4º – 13º of the mutable signs, this Mercury Rx period was felt strongest.
