Progressed Full Moon Phase

I’m coming up on a very rare event: my progressed full moon phase (read what natal progressions are here). Just like the sun and moon in the sky, your progressed sun and moon go through phases: new moon, first quarter, full moon, etc.

As explained in more detail in this article, the progressed moon is the fastest moving progression at a speed of two and a half years spent in each zodiac sign. So it takes about 30 years for your progressed moon to move all the way around your chart. The progressed sun takes 30 years in each sign! So when they make connections with one another, it’s really significant and the energy lasts a few years. The progressed sun represents your evolving ego identity and life purpose. The progressed moon represents your evolving needs and relationships.

My PR sun is at 27º Taurus, and my PR moon is at 27º Scorpio (exact November 25th). This is a personal culmination, just like the Full Moon is in general. All my efforts over the last 15 years (since my progressed new moon phase) are coming together, and supposedly I will either see great success and recognition, or significant loss and the crumbling of everything I’ve worked for. No pressure!

This progression phase for anyone begins a 4-year period of picking up the pieces and starting in a new direction, either in the wake of success or the wake of failure. The action happens at the beginning of the phase, and then the following few years are pretty smooth, because whatever happened is over and you can go from there. It seems kind of like Christmas, to me: you anticipate it for a while, then it happens and you get to open your presents. The aftermath is either being satisfied you got what you want, or dealing with disappointment, but either way you know for sure.

This is what my progressed chart looks like right now. You can see the Sun and Moon glyphs in opposition from one another (with the bold red line between them), in Taurus and Scorpio, respectively. You can also see that my progressed moon is conjunct Uranus, which I will talk about in a minute:

Progressed Full Moon Phase

I’ve known this phase was coming for a while, just being an astrologer who looks all this stuff up way in advance. But I have been terrified of it! Because up until the beginning of this month I literally didn’t which way my life would go. Over the last few years during my progressed Scorpio moon phase things have been really shitty, to be perfectly frank with you. I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.. But it looks like I am going to be okay…I have a new job, I managed to keep my home through a financial struggle, and of course I’m still alive (the ultimate win!).

On a side note, it’s interesting that the U.S. election has coincided with my own personal culmination, in a weird synchronicity. There was such anticipation and emotional investment nationwide (worldwide, actually), and now that we all know the outcome, we have to pick up the pieces and move on from here. At least we know…right? The Taurus Full Moon today (a supermoon) has been emotionally taxing for everyone, and on a personal level it falls on my progressed Ascendant and sextiles my natal Ascendant. Bottom line…I was very emotionally tied up in the events of my nation.

Another weird coincidence is the element of surprise in this election is also clearly present in my own progressed chart. My PR moon at 27º Scorpio is conjunct Uranus, which represents the unexpected. Also – because things are always mirrored multiple times in astrology – transiting Uranus in the sky is conjunct my natal Sun in Aries, right now. Hey, it keeps things interesting, right?

Progressed Moon in Sagittarius or 9th House

This post is part of a series about lunar progressions. Progressions are your natal planets advanced a day for each year you have been alive (aka very slowly), and represent how you have evolved. You can read this post for more about progressions, in general. To calculate your progressed chart you can establish a free account at and enter your birth data (date, time, and location) to generate a natal chart. Then under “extended chart selection” you can choose progressed chart.

The progressed moon represents your evolving needs, and takes about 2.5 years to go through each sign. This sign describes your general emotional climate and relationships. The natal house your progressed moon is moving through describes the areas of life that are most important.

When you go from PR moon in Scorpio to Sagittarius, it’s like a breath of fresh air. I am about to go through this transition in a few months, and I absolutely can’t wait because PR Scorpio moon is difficult; it’s all about survival, living on bare bones, and is very solitary. But moving into Sagittarius is when the world opens up again. Sag is a sign about freedom, adventure, optimism and fun!

Sag is ruled by Jupiter, planet of expansion. Jupiter is like the ghost of Christmas present, an enormous man surrounded by a cornucopia of food and drinks and happy people. Sagittarius has this same energy…party, excess, and a lightness of being that can’t be weighed down. Sooo different from the darkness and despair of Scorpio! But Jupiter hates being fenced in, so you can get a bit restless or discontent with day-to-day life during PR moon in Sagittarius, especially if you’re not growing.

When your PR moon switches to Sag, the famine turns to feast. Although very private, Scorpio is an extremely emotional sign, and it’s also very obsessive. So it goes to a dark place and it stays there, or becomes fixated on one thing only. Sagittarius is a fire sign so it’s still emotional, but in a passionate, creative way. You are more open about your feelings and way more likely to laugh off the blues, during this lunar progression. When you were in Scorpio PR moon, you got quiet if something bothered you, maybe plotted your revenge…but now, you will be immediately argumentative if you feel like you have to defend your beliefs. Sag loves a debate!

This is also a mutable sign, meaning it goes with the flow. You will find it a lot easier to embrace change now, and even be spontaneous again. Wanderlust is common with this progression. You will feel curious about people from different walks of life, especially different cultures, and want to have easy friendships. Higher education will also be important so you may be drawn to experienced types, or even pursue a higher degree yourself…there’s something about college campuses and learning that Sag is drawn to like a moth to a flame. Travel is also something to plan/expect. Opportunity to broaden your horizons just comes about during this phase, and also to be creative and express yourself.

If your PR moon is transitioning from your natal 8th to 9th house, you’ll experience similar changes, especially more opportunities for growth/higher learning/travel/publishing, because those are the H9 areas. When your PR moon was in H8, you probably had to deal with issues concerning shared resources – your partner’s funds, debts you owe, tax issues, an inheritance after a loved one dies – and generally un-fun things similar to what I described about the Scorpio lunar progression. H8 represents things that aren’t entirely in your control, and where you give up some of your power to someone else. Obviously shared money falls into that category, but also death (loss of a loved one, perhaps), and intimacy with your partner/loved ones, is included.

I think the main thing about the transition from Scorpio to Sagittarius, or 8th house to 9th, is this feeling that you survived. You did it, you went through the dark tunnel and came out on the other side, and you’re just so happy about it! That’s why there’s a renewed sense of faith…you realize that there must be a higher power helping you out, because it looked like it was the end, for a while there. So you abandon the dark cubby hole you’ve been living in and come out into the world, because you’re genuinely curious about what’s new out there. Sag tends to be a popular sign because people can’t help but be drawn to your laid back, “it’s all good” attitude. Only someone who has been through hell can come out and not sweat the small stuff, and now that’s you.

You will be more honest during this progression, but know you may be too blunt or in people’s faces. Explore your faith and beliefs, but try not to force them down other people’s throats, because it’s none of your business what another’s truth is. Give into your wanderlust and thirst for fun, but realize you may be seen as more unreliable or immature by others during this time. You’ll be drawn to new experiences but also excess. Remember more is not necessarily better.

This progression is easy for everyone, but most enjoyable for those with natal moon in another fire sign (Aries, Leo). It will be the most challenging for those with natal moon in another mutable sign (Gemini, Virgo, Pisces), but again, the “challenges” of this lunar progression are negligible compared to other phases.

Progressed Moon in Scorpio or 8th House

The Progressed Moon represents your evolving needs, relationships, and general emotional state. When your PR Moon sign or house changes, your current needs change, and therefore so does your life. During the shift from Libra to Scorpio (or natal 7th house to 8th), survival becomes your greatest priority. You are entering a pyschology-oriented phase, which lasts about 2.5 years for the Scorpio progression and anywhere from 1-4 years for the 8th house progression, depending on house size. Both of these transits are notoriously difficult for anyone who does not have a natal Scorpio or 8th house moon. The reason for that is because the Moon is exalted in Scorpio’s opposite sign, Taurus, and therefore uncomfortable or in its Fall in Scorpio.

When your PR Moon was in Libra or your 7th house, you were focused on partnerships and social graces. The most uncomfortable things for you at that time were loneliness, ugliness and anything undignified. You sacrificed much (including personal power) to find balance and make sure all your relationships ran smoothly. Libra can wildly swing back and forth trying to find a happy medium, so you may have been a bit argumentative or contrary, and had trouble making decisions! But once PR Moon enters Scorpio/H8, get ready for some significant changes. This may be the most difficult next few years of your life. If you’ve weathered a few, then you know what you’re in for!

Are you comfortable with the emotional intensity this Pluto-ruled sign will bring? If so, you may be able to handle what’s ahead. If not, be prepared for some trying times. Scorpio is an extremist, and everything that happens will be all or nothing during this progression. The change from Libra to Scorpio is a bit shocking, because Libra is an Air sign, and is all about appearances and looking good. Scorpio is a deep-feeling Water sign that cares for none of that! It wants the naked, often ugly truth, right down to the bare bones. In addition, where Libra oscillates between two choices, Fixed Scorpio makes one and sticks with it. There is no going back with this sign…it burns bridges as it walks, and the match was lit deliberately.

So…what’s going to happen when you transition to PR Scorpio Moon? If you are in a committed relationship (Libra) that you’ve been ignoring some serious red flags about, say goodbye. If you have friends that are fickle or flighty, or a lot of superficial acquaintances, watch their backs as they leave. Scorpio wants the most loyal and true of connections, those who are most intimate (on an emotional level, not just physical). The rest will be ripped away from you, whether you’re ready or not. You’ll find out who your true friends are soon enough, because Scorpio is also about the darkness. Who will hold your hand when you’re in it?

Especially with the 8th house progression, you may find out if you can take an existing partnership (7th house) to the next level of intimacy and trust. Because the 8th house is about that which we can’t control, and at a deeper level of closeness, you relinquish your power. That’s what’s so interesting about the Scorpio/H8 Moon progressions: although this is a very control-focused sign, it’s really a consequence of not having power and trying to gain some back! Both Virgo and Scorpio are an awkward 150º away from Aries, the start of the Zodiac, and they must compromise. Virgo regains control via focusing on details. Scorpio is another animal; it’s entire modus operandi is self-protection, and covert actions that involve deeper psychological understanding.

The sooner you can accept that you ultimately have no control during this progression, the faster you will be able to move on from whatever situation you find yourself “stuck” in. Being a Fixed sign, often events that happen during Scorpio or H8 moon progressions are long-term. And don’t listen to the hype about Scorpio being sex-crazed; this sign is actually very hesitant to enter into physically intimate relationships, again, because it really dislikes giving up its power. So if you aren’t in a partnership when this progression begins, don’t be surprised if you want to remain single the entire time! If you do enter a sexual relationship, it will only be with someone you have built trust with…or in dark Scorpio times, are strategically using. If you are already with someone you trust, this can be a great time to explore deeper, more authentic intimacy.

The other issue present during PR Moon in Scorpio and especially the 8th house is debt and shared resources. This means that your debt may become a serious issue, or you may inherit from a loved one, or your partner’s finances may be a wreck, or you may have to deal with a tax situation. Any money that is not solely yours (Taurus/2nd house stuff) is up for scrutiny. Again, because you don’t have complete control over these resources…you share them with a bank, the government, your spouse, etc. Or, they came to you through someone’s passing.

Death is another subject you may have to face. Not necessarily your own, but a loved one may pass in order to give you the opportunity to deal with your inner hangups/feelings about the transformation of death. If you’re already comfortable with it, you can act like a pillar of strength and comfort to others because you are good with uncomfortable topics and situations during this progression. You are fascinated by human emotion and their reactions. And you are very observant of others right now!

Your emotional state during this progression will be rather fixedly calm (which is nice), especially in the face of a crisis as mentioned above. But you may also be in a low-level depressive state for the whole of this progression as well. Do not be afraid to get counseling, as this is a great time for psychoanalysis. You have the strength and quite honestly, fascination, to deal with your demons right now. It’s actually stagnation that will make you despair. When the PR Moon is in a Fixed sign, you tend to reject change, even if it will be good for you! There’s something very dogged and stubborn about Scorpio…it wants to go down with the ship.

This is also a great progression for learning about darker, more taboo subjects, or studying astrology/tarot/psychology on an intense level. This progression will put you in some situation that strips away all superficialities in your life, and forces you to realize you can survive without the things you thought you needed. This is also a progression about regaining your own power, but it order to regain it, you must have it taken away. Maybe your significant other will leave you, or friends reject you, or you’ll go bankrupt, or someone you love will die, but whatever it is, the lesson you’ll learn is that you can survive (and even thrive) in the face of literal or figurative death. You are transforming, and the first part of that transformation is an ending, but the second part is a new beginning. My favorite depiction of Scorpio is the mythical phoenix, who rises from its own ashes.

In general, this Lunar progression is hard for everyone, but easiest for people with natal Moon in Scorpio and less difficult for other Water signs (Cancer, Pisces). This progression will be the most challenging for people with a different natal Fixed Moon (Taurus, Leo, Aquarius). Remember for both the Scorpio and 8th house progression that right now, your light burns brightest the darker it gets in the room.

Progressed Moon in Libra or 7th House

The Progressed Moon represents your evolving needs, relationships, and general emotional state. When your PR Moon sign or house changes, your current needs change, and therefore so does your life. During the shift from Virgo to Libra (or natal 6th house to 7th house), partnerships become your greatest priority. You are entering a relationship-oriented phase, which lasts about 2.5 years for the Libra progression and anywhere from 1-4 years for the 7th house progression, depending on your H7’s size.

When your PR Moon was in Virgo or your 6th house, you were focused on work, school, health, daily routines, personal habits, and may have suffered from stress-related illness if things weren’t running like clockwork every day. But primarily, you were keeping very busy and focused on practicalities (including money), learning new things, and being useful. Those days are over, as are the relationships you had, which were likely focused on co-workers or student peers, and an employee-to-boss or student-to-mentor. There is something subservient about Virgo/H6, and you will not be comfortable with that inequality when your PR Moon enters Libra or H7. You may initiate a change right off the bat, to reinstate balance within a personal or work relationship.

Libra’s primary objective in life is balance. It is constantly seeking equality and harmony, and does so through one-to-one relationships, because although often accused of vanity or narcissism, Libra only sees itself clearly when it is reflected in the eyes of another person. Have you ever had a friend that can’t stop looking at themselves in the reflection of your sunglasses? That’s Libra! Only, it goes deeper than that. Libra needs someone else’s feedback and objectivity. Otherwise, they are like one half of a whole, and something is constantly missing. It’s kind of sad, when you think about it, because Libra is not a sign that can do “alone time” very well. Likewise, you may consistently feel like you need a partner with every activity during this Moon progression!

Whether you are currently in a partnership or not, you may feel an increased need for one. If you are in one that has become imbalanced, you’ll seek to either reinstate equality or end it for a better, more balanced partnership. You will likely become more social and enjoy conversations – especially those that argue two sides of a point, in a civil and objective manner – and will become more tactful and diplomatic in your communicating. Social graces become important to you, and selfish or rude behavior from others becomes abhorrent. In fact, Venus-ruled Libra is often accused of superficiality because ugliness or vulgarity of any kind is simply intolerable. You need beauty and aesthetically pleasing environments in which to engage in polite conversation.

A major factor of this PR Moon phase is indecision; Libra has a terrible time trying to decide between one side of an issue or another. You may find yourself hesitating to act until you have discussed all the pros and cons of an issue, often using someone else to bounce ideas off of. On the one hand (in true Libra fashion), you are more likely to make an informed and intelligent decision. On the other, you may have a hell of a time taking action on anything at all during this PR Moon phase!

Here comes the bipolar side of Libra: confrontation and projecting. Libra is striving for balance, but often misses the mark; think of a see-saw. How often is it perfectly horizontal? Practically never. Similarly, Libra swings wildly from one side to another in life; when your PR Moon enters this sign or H7, you become increasingly bipolar in your emotions and will express it in an intellectual way (Libra is a detached Air sign), by starting arguments or playing devil’s advocate. If you have a natal Water or Fire Moon sign, you can experience an increase in your mood swings (fun!). As an Air sign, Libra seeks to communicate with others, and as a Cardinal sign (representing the start of Autumn) it wants to initiate conversations and relationships. This means during your PR Libra/H7 Moon, you will start arguments with people, and project your worst qualities onto others…which means they’ll get blamed for your confrontations!

Libra is a conceptual sign, so it enjoys the idea and discussion of things rather than the doing of them. When your PR Moon was in Virgo, you were active and pragmatic; that time is over. Your efforts will go into convincing others to do things for you, because that’s the Libra way. Unfortunately you may not see this about yourself, and will vehemently deny using ugly manipulation tactics when called out on it. You may even see all your own faults in others with no awareness of your own, because Libra puts on blinders when it comes to self-criticism. You’re not lazy, other people are! Why won’t they do these things you want them to do?? You’re not argumentative, others are! Why won’t they concede that your point is right??

In general, you’ll only resort to the ugly side of Libra when your needs aren’t being met, and when life feels too hard or brutal. Surrounding yourself with pleasant aesthetics and lovely atmosphere helps tremendously, as does having harmonious friends and acquaintances, but above all having a partner that you feel equality with. People often take a partnership to the next level during their PR Moon in Libra or H7… legal commitment in personal and business partnerships is an important need. It will help you to take action when you feel stuck in indecision, from time to time.

The Libra lunar progression is easiest for people with natal Moon in an Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), and most challenging for those with natal Moon in another Cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Capricorn). For both Libra/H7 lunar progressions, it’s a good time for addressing personal and business partnership commitment/equality issues. Be as aware as you can about a propensity towards argumentation/confrontation, projecting onto others, indecision, bipolar mood swings, and indecision. This is a difficult time for seeing yourself clearly, but easier if you’re open to feedback.

Progressed Moon in Virgo or 6th House

The Progressed Moon represents your current needs, relationships, and general emotional state. When your PR Moon sign or house changes, your needs evolve. During the shift from Leo to Virgo, or 5th to 6th housework and health become your greatest priorities, and your daily life goes under the microscope. You are entering a detail-oriented phase (about 2.5 years for the Virgo progression and 1-4 years for H6). During this time, practical considerations are under focus, and you can become a bit of a perfectionist! You also become more analytical and pragmatic.

Virgo is a very different sign than its predecessor, Leo. PR Moon in Leo or H5 was a relatively fun and selfish time. Your Virgo or H6 lunar progression is another animal! You’ll experience the need to focus on the daily necessities of life: your job, school, paying bills, chores and housework, and your health. During the Leo/H5 you could afford to be self-oriented and set in your ways, but no more. Right off the bat, a major change can occur that shakes up your schedule, like a new job, school, a health issue, or a different routine. You may have to start taking care of someone else, for example, and figure out how to adjust your life around that person.

Virgo is the studious and efficient young adult of the Zodiac; managing education, a job, and the details of life outside Mom and Dad’s house! Virgo is an Earth sign, and is practical and pragmatic: its motto is do what you can, when you can. Virgo likes to be busy in service to others, so prepare to do so! You’ll be more focused on practicalities: budgeting, paying bills, and savings plans. Health is a major focus for Virgo (the body is our vehicle), so this is a great time to develop a fitness routine, improved diet, get your checkups, or take vitamins. Virgo is very detail-oriented, so watch out for becoming health or work obsessed. A failing of this sign is it can’t see the forest for the trees, and can lose sight of the bigger picture. Remember to step back now and then!

Virgo is the organizer of the Zodiac, and is ruled by Mercury, planet of information. Virgo analyzes information, applies it, learns by trial and error, and then re-adjusts. While your PR Moon is in Virgo or H6, you may be taking in a lot of practical information, perhaps through your job or a college program, then required to actually use it. Because Virgo is so detail-obsessed, you will likely need to be more organized about your activities…consider keeping a planner. You will be able to retain more information at this time because your brain works better to categorize everything, and you are more critical about what you learn. You may begin to read a lot more!

Virgo is a Mutable sign (and H6 a “Cadent” house), representing the transition from Summer to Fall, and you will become much more adaptable and selfless. During my last PR Lunar transition from Leo/H5 to Virgo/H6 – they are aligned in my chart – I went from easy work and having fun with my then-boyfriend, to a management job and accelerated college program for Organizational Leadership. I also developed a health issue ultimately caused by the newfound stress. Incidentally, the link between work and health is so important during this lunar progression, and psychosomatic symptoms will occur if you don’t manage stress levels in a healthy way (exercise, meditation, yoga, etc.). Virgo can juggle too many activities and spread itself way too thin.

During PR Moon in Virgo/H6, you may drop the more dramatic people in your circle, in favor of those who are studious, hardworking, and practical. The switch from Leo to Virgo will allow you to loosen up your grip and move on from people and situations, because you won’t have time for emotional drama: you’ve got practical concerns. Co-workers and fellow students become close friends during this time. If you are care-taking for someone or providing them with a service, they will be very important in your life. Virgo doesn’t mind being subservient and enjoys the relationship of servant-master; you may become close to your managers or teachers. Pets also become a great source of happiness for you, and you are more occupied with their issues.

The Virgo lunar progression is easiest for people with natal Moon in an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), and most challenging for those with natal Moon in another Mutable sign (Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces). For both Virgo/H6 lunar progressions, it’s a good time for organizing anything in your life, including your schedule, surroundings, and closets! Watch your stress levels; illness, psychosomatic symptoms, and dietary issues are more likely. Becoming overly perfectionist or obsessed with details is also problematic, as is being too critical of yourself and others.

Progressed Moon in Leo or 5th House

The Progressed Moon represents your current needs, relationships, and general emotional state. When your PR Moon sign or house changes, your needs evolve. During the shift from Cancer to Leo, or 4th to 5th house, self-expression becomes your greatest need. You are entering a creative and exciting phase (about 2.5 years for the Leo progression and 1-4 years for H5). During this time, you will feel happier, and like getting out of the house more and having fun!

Leo is the self-centered teenager of the Zodiac… strutting, primping, and being dramatic! As a Fire sign, Leo is creative, passionate, and self-involved. It is naturally ruled by the Sun, which represents ego, so Leo’s sense of self and confidence levels are well-developed. When your Progressed Moon enters Leo or H5, you become concerned with expressing yourself and living in the moment. This includes all kinds of creative endeavors, performance, hobbies, gambling, fun, and even romance! Remember during this phase that Leo’s biggest fall is pride. You are more likely to be embarrassed by slights to your ego during this time. You can also act a bit self-centered, because you are reveling in yourself right now. Your hair (mane) might also become a big focus!

Leo is in touch with her inner child, so children and pregnancy become more appealing (especially during the H5 progression). Your children are a representation of your creativity – the ultimate creation – and during this PR Moon phase, people often conceive or give birth. If you already have kids or grandkids, you become more involved with them in a fun way. You may have more lovers during these progressions, but not necessarily long-term relationships. It’s all about living in the moment for Leo! 😎 Be cautious about overspending: especially on gambling, picking up the group tab, and expensive or flashy clothes, jewelry, and cars to show off in!

Unlike during your Cancer PR Moon phase (which was all about nurturing), you will be more self-involved. The H4 phase especially is not a joyful one, so when your PR Moon transitions to H5, you feel a lot lighter, happier, and more optimistic. During Leo/H5 phases you’ll want to have good times, and tend to be more generous to your loved ones, but can become emotional and dramatic if you aren’t receiving love and appreciation in return. It takes a lot to ruffle Leo’s mane, but once that happens, you may act very immature!

Leo is a Fixed sign (and H5 a “Succedent” house) representing the middle of Summer, and during this PR Moon phase, you need more constance in your life. You can become strong-willed and a bit stubborn during this phase, because you are digging in your heels to fulfill your need for self-expression. Leo is very reasonable, and can be swayed by appealing to her sense of right and wrong, however you will become irritated when people change things up without consulting you first. This is a regal sign, and you may be especially sensitive to people bossing you around right now (even your actual boss, which can pose a problem…). Leo’s motto is that the creative process happens in its own good time, and you may become rather uncompromising about this idea.

During this phase, you can cut out people from your life that were manipulative and co-dependent (relationships that may have developed during your Cancer/H4 phase). Leo is an honest and direct sign, and you want more consistency and openness in your friends and family. You also want respect and loyalty, and will give it 100% in return. If someone slights or wrongs you during this time, you could potentially cut them out of your life forever. Although you are loyal, if there are people in your life that are too depressed or negative and dragging you down, you can cut them out of your life and make room for more fun, optimistic, and confident types. You may meet new friends through hobbies, and new romances as well.

The Leo lunar progression is easiest for people with natal Moon in a Fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), and most challenging for those with natal Moon in another Fixed sign (Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius). The 5th house progression is a time of focus on creativity, and tends to be a more exciting, passionate, and self-expressive time for everyone. Children and pregnancy are emphasized at this time, and in general, enjoyment of life.

Progressed Moon in Cancer or 4th House

The Progressed Moon represents your current needs, relationships, and general emotional state. When your PR Moon sign or house changes, your needs evolve. During the shift from Gemini to Cancer (or 3rd house to 4th house), your feelings become more important, as does home and family. You switch from needing information to needing comfort. You are entering a nurturing phase (about 2.5 years for the sign progression and 1-4 years for the house, depending on its size).

Cancer is the 4th sign, and is like the moody preteen of the Zodiac, who hides in a shell when life gets too tough. As a Water sign, Cancer feels her way through the world, and is very intuitive. When your Progressed Moon enters this sign or her house (the 4th), you will become more sensitive to your environment; particularly, how the people around you feel and what their needs are. Unlike during your Gemini PR Moon phase (which was all about communication), you will be more concerned with making sure things are comfortable around you, and that everyone is taken care of.

Cancer is a Cardinal sign (and H4 an “Angular” house) representing the beginning of Summer, so you will initiate many things during this phase, particularly those having to do with home and family. You may buy and settle into a new home during this time, or start a family. Because your relationships change with your PR Moon, you will likely seek out deeper, more nurturing relationships than you had in the Gemini/H3 progressions. If you had lots of acquaintances, you may let the more superficial ones fall away and give your attention to a few close friends and family. You’ll want to spend time with people who are in line with your current needs: nurturing, intuitive, caring, and family-oriented.

During the Cancer Moon progression, you can become overly sensitive and crabby (Cancer’s animal is the crab!). This is a moody sign because it is naturally ruled by the Moon, which fluctuates the tides. You, too, have your own cyclical ups and downs. If people hurt you – even unintentionally – you crawl back into your shell rather than address it directly. The crab moves side-to-side, and you will scuttle around issues rather than deal with them head on. This is one of the most passive aggressive signs, more comfortable communicating in an unspoken way with innuendos and the silent treatment!

The Cancer lunar progression is easiest for people with natal Moon in a Water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), and most challenging for those with natal Moon in another Cardinal sign (Aries, Libra, Capricorn). The 4th house progression is a time of focus on home and family, as well as exploring your past, including ancestry, and your own inherited traits/behaviors. This is a house of endings, so it can be a hard time as you deal with family issues and your own unconscious behaviors you learned from them, and then let these things go so you can move on.
