Happy Sagittarius Season!

Happy Sagittarius Season! The Sun has entered Sag! I absolutely love this season. Maybe it’s because I’m an Aries and Sag is a fellow Fire sign? But everyone seems so much happier during Sag season, and full of hope. People think less about their problems and lighten up, this time of year.

The Sun entered Sagittarius on November 21st this year, and it will leave on December 21st. So it starts with a gluttonous feast (Thanksgiving) which is appropriate, and leads up to the first day of Winter. I have a theory that most people don’t start worrying about Christmas until the Sun moves into Capricorn a few days beforehand, and that’s why there is such a ridiculous rush on the malls and such, to do all the last-minute shopping. Capricorn means worrying and spending money, so there you go!

But leading up to that, December is all about parties, having fun, decorations and lights, and eating nice things. That basically sums up Sag in a nutshell! The number one depiction of the Sagittarius spirit though, is Santa Claus, in my opinion. The only way the magic works is through¬†belief, which is a major Sag/Jupiter theme. That belief can control a child’s behavior the entire month. Just think about what organized religion has done to control the mass population for millenniums! But seriously, remember when you were a kid (if you celebrated Christmas), and how magical this time of year truly was? Yes, you had to try to be good or Santa wouldn’t bring you any presents (which never happened), but it was just the belief that someone was out there waiting to be nice to you, and everyone you knew.

That’s the real magic, is the faith that something is out there that loves you and everyone else. We could really use some of that magic right now. It’s time to enjoy the lights and decorations and good food and realize that nearly every religion is celebrating something this season, so do we really have to argue semantics? We are all celebrating the same miracle in different costumes. Don’t let Sag’s downside (argument and competition over the “truth”) get you on a soap box this season. Let’s just all sit down at one big cornucopia and pass each other the food, and laugh at each other’s jokes. Yes, I am a rosy-eyed Pisces rising, deal with it. ūüėé

The Jupiter-Pluto Square

The Jupiter-Pluto SquareThere is a major square coming up that will hit three times between now and 2017: Jupiter in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn. The first one will be exact on November 24th¬†at 15¬ļ (so you can feel it building already), and the other two will happen on March 30th and August 4th of 2017, respectively.

Jupiter is all about expansion, and in Libra, it’s currently magnifying relationship goals and social ideals. The house it’s riding through in your chart represents what life areas are taking larger significance for you at any given time. For example,¬†Jupiter is currently transiting my 7th house (on the heels of a¬†Jupiter Return), which is¬†Libra’s natural house, representing¬†committed partnerships. So for me, there’s a double-whammy of focus on idealistic relationships, at the moment. For you, it might be your 5th house, so your relationship with your¬†children or lover would take significance, a¬†creative partner, or idealistic self-expression. If it’s in your 10th house, you’ll be focusing on business partnerships,¬†social contacts that help your¬†profession, or projecting an¬†ideal image to the world.

Pluto is about transformation, and in Capricorn (where it’s been for eight years), it’s examining and breaking down traditional power structures. On an individual level, this could be a slow but permanent change in your professional life, hierarchies like your family or employer, and how you view/interact with your government. Pluto is¬†just entering my 11th house (it’s been teeter-tottering on the cusp for a while now), but while it was in my 10th house, it transformed my¬†career. If Pluto is in your 2nd house, your self-worth and personal finances are going through permanent changes. If it’s transiting your 4th house,¬†family and home hierarchy is being transformed.

So what happens when these two clash in a 90¬ļ square? Jupiter is the applying planet because it’s the faster mover, so just remember that it always wants to¬†enlarge whatever it comes into contact with. A square means tension, crisis, and/or a conflict of interest. So in this case, the Libra idealism/hyper-focus on partnerships clashes with Capricorn power structures. Don’t forget that Capricorn’s natural ruler is Saturn, Jupiter’s foil: where Jupiter expands, Saturn contracts. So this square could play out something like this: you have a vision of an idealistic, balanced, harmonious society but the man is getting you down. Or perhaps the cold, harsh rules of someone in power prevent you from enjoying a beautiful partnership.

Globally, Jupiter’s strong ideals and high hopes are being stymied by those in power. I’ve already talked about the U.S. election on this blog, and this square would certainly apply to those who oppose our current president elect. Like Jupiter ramming itself against Pluto’s iron fist, people may attempt to¬†push their ideals even more strongly when told, “no.” It would also apply to his supporters who have high hopes .. perhaps too high, and he won’t be able to live up to them due to the powers that be.

On a personal level, remember to check the natal houses and planets, angles, or nodes it affects for you. These are indicators as to how and where it will play out in your life. I wish I could tell you I was in some ideal relationship that will be challenged by my career during this square (because then I could give you a personal example), but nooo I’m not, lmao. But if you have personal planets/angles/nodes from 14 – 19 degrees of the Cardinal signs, then you will be the most affected by this series of upcoming squares. Just try to remember that if you find yourself thwarted, and attempt to fix that by pushing¬†your ideals even further down people’s throats….you’re not handling this well.

Make use of this energy by allowing yourself to compromise and work¬†with any restrictions that come up, not against them, especially if this transit manifests for you via a person in a position of power limiting you in some way. You’ll be surprised at how much it can help you in the end, and even empower your own success.

Progressed Full Moon Phase

Progressed Full Moon PhaseI’m coming up on an interesting and rare astrological progression: my progressed Full Moon phase.¬†I’m currently in the middle of writing a series on Lunar Progressions, in which I go into great depth on how your PR moon will affect you in each sign and house. But I haven’t talked about the PR moon¬†phases. They are determined based on the relationship between¬†your¬†progressed¬†Sun and Moon. For example, if your¬†progressed sun is at 1¬ļ Virgo, and your progressed moon is at 1¬ļ Sagittarius, then they square one another and you are entering a 1st quarter phase which will last for the next several years. You will be experiencing themes of growth, crisis that clarifies what direction to pursue, etc. (I’ll write a future article that goes into more detail about the different phases, but this one focuses on my personal experience so far with the Full Moon phase.)

Just to¬†clarify, progressions are entirely personal to you, unlike transits. They are calculated by speeding up your natal chart by one day for every year of your life. So if you are 40 years old, your progressed chart is the same as the sky 40 days after you were born. They are a predictive tool, and describe how you are currently using¬†the potential of your natal chart. When your progressed planets (usually just the inner ones)¬†change signs or houses, it’s a big deal because a) they move very slowly and b) they mark significant changes in your life.

Your sun, just like in your natal chart, is the most significant progressed planet, and represents your evolving identity and purpose. It changes signs only once every 30 years. The moon is also important, changing signs every 2.5 years, and describes your evolving¬†needs and relationships as well as your general emotional “climate” for that time period. The relationship between the PR sun and moon is how you determine the phase you are in. The¬†PR sun and moon join up once every 30 years, and this represents your “new moon” phase, or the start of a brand new 30-year cycle.

I am coming up on my Full Moon phase, because my PR sun is at 27¬ļ Taurus, and my PR moon is at 27¬ļ Scorpio (they will be exact on November 25th). This is a culmination, just like the regular Full Moon. It is a time where all your efforts – over the last 15 years – come together, and you can see great success and recognition, or significant loss and the crumbling of everything you’ve worked for. It begins about a 4-year period of picking up the pieces and starting in a new direction, either in the wake of success or the wake of failure. They say the “action” happens right at the beginning, and then the next few years are¬†pretty smooth, because whatever happened happened and you can go from there.¬†It’s kind of like Christmas: you’ve been anticipating it a while, then it’s finally here and you get to open your presents.¬†After that, whether you got what you wanted and are satisfied, or you didn’t and are disappointed, at least it’s¬†over and you¬†are certain¬†either way!

Progressed Full Moon Phase

As an astrologer, I’ve obviously known this was coming. But I have been terrified of it, because up until really the beginning of this month, I wasn’t sure which way my life would go: success or ruin. Over the last few years in my PR Scorpio moon phase, things have been particularly challenging. I really didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel for a while, but I had to just hope and keep faith that everything would work out, even when it repeatedly looked like it wasn’t. But it looks (knock on wood) like I am going to be okay. I have a great new job that I love, I managed to maintain my home through a very difficult financial struggle, and I am still alive!

I think it’s so interesting that the U.S. election has coincided with my own personal culmination. There was such anticipation and emotional investment nationwide (worldwide, actually), and now that we all know the outcome, we have to pick up the pieces and move on from here. At least we know…right? The Taurus Full Moon today (a supermoon!) has been extremely emotionally taxing, and I didn’t realize it, but it falls close to my PR Ascendant and sextile my natal Ascendant. I think I was too tied up in the events of my nation, and now I have to go back to¬†minding my own business!

On an interesting note, the element of surprise in this election is also clearly present in my own chart; my PR moon at 27¬ļ Scorpio is conjunct Uranus (see my progressed chart above). Surprise, surprise, indeed! In addition, transiting Uranus is conjunct my natal Sun in Aries. I don’t particularly enjoy having my life and emotions so tied up in what is going on globally, but I do enjoy a bit of the unexpected to keep life fresh and interesting. It’s also strange that as my life takes a turn for the better on a personal level, it seems like everything else is crumbling. I hope that’s not the case, but at the moment, my country seems to be in turmoil.

In a few months, my PR moon will move into Sagittarius, and then my natal 9th house. I am looking forward to the change, expansion, hopefulness, and adventure of that phase, which will also resonate very well with all my natal Aries planets and Leo moon. After the storm is indeed the calm, and even though this is obvious in my chart, I think that can be said for anyone who is going through their progressed Lunar Full Moon phase.

Full Moon in Taurus, and the Feminine Standoff

Full Moon in Taurus, and the Feminine StandoffThere is a Full Moon coming up on the Monday the 14th, at 22¬ļ Taurus. There’s also a lot going on worldwide, right now, but especially in the U.S. Our election didn’t go as anticipated, people are hurt and angry, and minorities are terrified about what this government means to their personal safety. Other people – who were hurt and angry – are ecstatic that a new regime has begun in Washington.

This¬†full moon falls on Hillary Clinton’s Lunar North Node (aka her karmic path forward), and at the time I – as many others, no doubt – was fairly certain she was a shoe in for the presidency. Well, her destiny is pointing in another direction, but this moon phase is a significant step. First of all, Black Moon Lilith will be conjunct the sun at 19¬ļ Scorpio, and therefore opposes¬†the full moon. I don’t know if I’ve ever talked about Lilith before on this blog, but she is the apogee of the moon’s orbit (a point in space,¬†not a¬†celestial body), and in Judaism, represents Adam’s first wife before he made Eve. Lilith¬†was wild and refused to submit to him, insisting upon being treated as an equal; when Adam tried to dominate her, she left Eden.

So in astrology, she pretty much represents the same thing; the wild, sexual, untamable female energy, which often becomes angry over being ostracized for refusing to conform to acceptable gender roles. In Scorpio, she’s essentially in her element, but fits into the¬†“scapegoat” role too well. Lilith’s anger is dangerous in Scorpio, simmering under the surface with one finger on the trigger to a nuke. When she opposes the Taurus full moon this Monday, she represents a standoff between traditional female roles (Taurus moon) and the scapegoat female who threatened to destroy the sanctity of the establishment (Lilith in Scorpio).

I’d like to address it on a global level, however. Hillary certainly fits the description of the woman who threatened to take down the country, in the eyes of many. But from the viewpoint of others, women on the¬†whole have been ostracized by the establishment once again, by not being allowed to take part in yet another male-dominated arena: the presidency. This full moon is a culmination of the outpouring of emotion that women around the world are feeling and sharing, the pain of – as Hillary said in her concession speech – not yet breaking that final glass ceiling. There is a lot of fear, as I said, for many minorities, but for women it means someone who unapologetically speaks about sexual predation is now their leader. It is intolerable and they, like Lilith, are refusing to submit and are angry at the injustice of not being accepted for who they are.

On a positive note, Chiron will be giving a little aid via a sextile to the full moon from Pisces, which always promotes healing, compassion, and empathy. It’s not just women that are hurting right now, nor¬†all women (many will be on the Taurus side of this polarity and welcome a return to traditional values). But if those that are hurting and those that have compassion for their fellow Americans and global neighbors who are in pain can come together, we can find a resolution for all of this. I didn’t watch it, but I heard that Trump’s acceptance speech was filled with a lot more humility and inclusion for all citizens than anything he said in his campaign. Hopefully that’s true, and we can start to rebuild a more loving and inclusive country.

Life Path 6

Life Path 6Your Life Path number in numerology is the most significant number, and represents the essence of who you are and why you are here. You’ll spend a lifetime learning about it (much like in astrology, you spend a lifetime coming into your sun sign). To calculate your Life Path number, just add up the day, month, and year of your birth, then reduce. For example, if you were born on November 25th, 1992, you would add: (1+1) + (2+5) + (1+9+9+2) = 2 + 7 + (2+1) = 2 + 7 + 3 = 12. Then reduce: 1 + 2 = 3. You are a Life Path 3!

If you have a 6 Life Path, then congratulations, because you have the most attractive number. You also have the most responsibility on your hands, so…there’s that too! 6 is the number of family and home, different from the way 4 is about the physical structure of your house, but because home is where the heart is. 6¬†is the number of the heart, and of love. That’s why it’s so attractive! Love is the strongest force we have. When you open up your heart you send out that power, and people naturally want to return it. The trick is, letting love in can be difficult, too!

The number 6 is a lot like the zodiac sign Libra. Aside from the love thing, 6s are always trying to seek¬†justice for all. But there’s a little Capricorn (or Cancer) thrown into the mix, because Life Path 6s are often the family patriarchs or matriarchs, and tend towards leadership in any setting. They are often worried about everyone else, too. I think of LP 6s like perpetual¬†eldest children…they shoulder a lot of responsibility and have to worry about their younger siblings, have the most chores, but in a way enjoy being the one their parents look to, to help things run smoothly. Then they grow up and recreate the whole thing by marrying, buying a house, and having kids. They just¬†need people and responsibility!

I said above that this sign is a bit Capricorn-y, then went on to describe all the things that sound more like Cancer. But here’s where the Goat comes in: Life Path 6s tend to be control freaks, and they like running things in business too. These people find it hard to let go and let others live their lives. If you are a 6 and you don’t have a family, you’ll make a family of your friends, or if you don’t have a spouse you’ll uber-focus on your kids. You can easily become a helicopter parent, or that¬†person that is always trying to rescue or “fix” others. Careful, that’s not sexy! Get yourself a creative project to focus on instead, because on top of being the most attractive number, you’re also good at art and music and stuff (because life is so fair!). The payment for your many gifts is, of course, that you’re a judge-y perfectionist.

Life path 6s care¬†a lot. When people don’t let your love in, however, you can get very annoying to be around. You have high expectations of yourself and others, and people just can’t live up to that. You also (like Libra) blow icy cold when you aren’t happy, which is just another form of trying to control the people around you. Try letting go¬†instead of tightening your grip when you get disappointed or stressed out, and remember that the ones you love are only human! If you must control something, let it be your business or hobby, and watch it¬†flourish. I like 6s because I’m a Life Path 9 and we’re compatible energy (plus I just like being fussed over, I have a Leo moon!)…but they can be some of the most smothering people when they get on a binge. Kind of like a bored 3 who decides¬†to make you their pet project! There’s something about 3, 6, and 9 that resonates (because they are multiples of 3, I guess).

I think there’s also something Neptunian in the 6 energy because of the idealism and creative energy. You can use this to be really compassionate to others and successful in creative endeavors,¬†or like Neptune/Pisces, you can let yourself become disappointed over and over when reality doesn’t live up to your high ideals. Or, you don’t take action – in typical Libra fashion – because circumstances aren’t perfect. Don’t let your life be ruined. As my mom always says, “perfection is the enemy of¬†done.” When you embrace the messiness of life and realize that you can’t see it from your small human perspective, but life¬†is perfect, then nothing can stop you. Listen to me, I know these things, I’m a 9. ūüėõ

Upcoming Transits and the U.S. Presidential Election

Upcoming Transits and the U.S. Presidential ElectionThere are three¬†ingresses¬†this week, leading up to the Full Moon next Monday (Nov 14th). All these¬†planets will be changing signs within a four-day period, starting the day after the U.S. presidential election…which is quite the¬†energy shift!

Mars enters Aquarius¬†on Wednesday, Nov 9th (EST). This is¬†an innovative¬†and go-against-the-grain energy for Mars, planet of initiation and action. But it’s more about concepts¬†than¬†doing, so there’s that. Aquarius is emotionally detached and objective, so it may be easier to think before you make a rash decision. I said maybe: Aquarius is known for its unpredictability and rule-breaking.¬†Mars enters Pisces on Dec 19th.

Venus enters Capricorn on Friday, Nov 11th. This puts the focus for love and friendship on practical, achievable goals, and new connections that double as resources. Sounds a little cold and calculated, but Capricorn is actually a warm earth sign, just the most ambitious one. Venus also rules material things, and Capricorn loves status, so you may be drawn to name-brands (and quality over quantity). Venus enters Aquarius on Dec 7th.

Mercury enters Sagittarius on Saturday, Nov 12th. This opens up communication and puts emphasis on the bigger picture (with much potential for flaws in the details!). Sag is all about ideas and beliefs, so this can also be a time for arguments, all of which will have holes. An excellent time to learn anything new and exciting, or peruse faith and spirituality texts. Mercury enters Capricorn on Dec 2nd.

With the U.S. presidential election in two days, this week ushers in a time of change! I’ve been trying to do the astrology of Clinton and Trump, and unfortunately there’s a lot of argument over Hillary’s birth time, which throws houses and angles out the window. But at poll closing time, the sky favors a female energy; the sun and moon are in Scorpio and Pisces, both water signs. In fact, they are in Hillary’s natal sun and moon signs, which bodes well for her…and the upcoming Full Moon in Taurus is conjunct her Lunar North Node, which represents her destiny.

Donald also has some transits happening, specifically planets entering his natal and progressed 4th house (assuming his birth time is correct)…this indicates a¬†renewed focus on¬†home and family. He also has Jupiter conjunct Chiron, which represents a major flare up of¬†an old emotional pain, and he will soon have¬†his¬†Jupiter return which is the start of a new 12-year cycle. That could be the start of his presidency, or it could indicate he’s packing it in and headed for something new. I guess we’ll see!

I¬†checked the U.S.’s progressed chart, and our country’s ascendant just entered Virgo, a feminine sign. Could we actually see the first female president of the United States get elected this week? What a long-awaited historical moment that will¬†be!

Progressed Moon in Sagittarius or 9th House

Progressed Moon in Sagittarius or 9th HouseNatal chart progressions are your natal planets advanced a day for each year you have been alive (aka very slowly). They represent how you have evolved, and the current expression of your natal planets.

The progressed moon represents your evolving needs, and takes about 2.5 years to go through each sign. This sign describes your general emotional climate, and the relationships you will have, for that time frame. The natal house your progressed moon is in describes the area of life that is most significant to you, right now.

When you go from PR moon in Scorpio to Sagittarius, it’s like a breath of fresh air. I am about to go through this transition in a few months, and I absolutely can’t wait because PR Scorpio moon is the most difficult! It’s all about survival, living on bare bones, and is often very solitary because you can’t tolerate¬†“fake” relationships during this lunar progression. It’s a sort of all-or-nothing time in your life. But moving on to Sagittarius is when the world opens up again. This is a sign about freedom, adventure, optimism, and fun.

Sag is ruled by Jupiter, which is the planet of expansion. It is often thought of as a benevolent planet, especially in traditional astrology. The depiction of Jupiter is kind of like the ghost of Christmas present, an enormous man surrounded by a cornucopia of food and drinks and happy people. Sagittarius has this same energy…party, excess, and a lightness of being that can’t be weighed down. Sooo different from the darkness and despair of Scorpio! But Jupiter hates¬†being fenced in, so you can get a bit restless or discontent with day-to-day life during PR moon in Sagittarius, especially if you’re not growing.

So when your PR moon switches to Sag, the famine turns to feast. Although very private, Scorpio is an extremely emotional sign, and it’s also very obsessive. So it goes to a dark place and it¬†stays there, or becomes fixated on one thing only. Sagittarius is a¬†fire sign so it’s still emotional, but in a passionate, creative way. You are more open about your feelings and way more likely to laugh off the blues, during this lunar progression. When you were in Scorpio PR moon, you got quiet if something bothered you, maybe plotted your revenge…but now, you will be immediately argumentative if you feel like you have to defend your beliefs. Sag loves a debate, but there are so many holes in the argument!

Sag is also a¬†mutable sign, meaning it goes with the flow. You will find it a lot easier to embrace change now, and even be spontaneous again. Wanderlust is common with this progression! You will feel curious about people from different walks of life, especially different cultures, and want to have easy friendships with fun people. But higher education will also be important so you may be drawn to experienced types, or even pursue a higher degree yourself during this progression…there’s something about college campuses and learning that Sag is drawn to like a moth to a flame! Travel is also something to plan/expect. Opportunity to broaden your horizons just comes about, during this phase, and also to be creative and express yourself.

If your PR moon is transitioning from your natal¬†8th to 9th house, you’ll experience similar changes, especially more opportunities for growth/higher learning/travel/publishing, because¬†those are the H9 areas. When your PR moon was in H8, you probably¬†had to deal with issues concerning shared resources – your partner’s funds, debts you owe, tax issues, an inheritance after a loved one dies – and generally un-fun things similar to what I described about the Scorpio lunar progression. H8 represents things that aren’t entirely in your control, and where you give up some of your power to someone else. Obviously shared money falls into that category, but also death (loss of a loved one, perhaps), and intimacy with your partner/loved ones, is included.

I had the (unfortunate) experience of having my Scorpio lunar progression AND my 8th house lunar progression at the same time, because they are lined up in my chart. Just before¬†my PR moon went into Scorpio/8th house, I bought a home, and got a new mortgage, the biggest debt I’d ever been responsible for! Then a slew of crappy things happened as soon as it¬†entered Scorpio (still in H7), including being¬†bullied at work, my unsupportive boyfriend broke up with me, and then I had a nervous breakdown and was out of work for two months. Just when things started looking up, PR moon entered my 8th house, and I promptly had a beloved pet die, a pipe burst and destroyed part of my home, and then I got fired from my job. I had other tense things going on in my chart/transits making things worse, but¬†still.

I think the main thing about the transition from Scorpio to Sagittarius, or 8th house to 9th, is this feeling that you¬†survived. You did it, you went through the dark tunnel and came out on the other side, and you’re just so¬†happy about it! That’s why there’s a renewed sense of faith…you realize that there must be a higher power helping you out, because it looked like it was the end, for a while there. So you abandon the dark cubby hole you’ve been living in and come out into the world, because you’re genuinely curious about what’s new out there. Sag tends to be a popular sign because people can’t help but be drawn to your laid back, “it’s all good” attitude. Only someone who has been through hell can come out and not sweat the small stuff, and now that’s you.

Things to know about this new progression: you are being challenged to expand yourself, learn, travel,¬†have¬†adventures, open yourself up to different cultures/perspectives, publish (if applicable), and potentially debate in a legal setting (especially with the H9 progression). Be honest but know you may be too blunt or in people’s faces during this progression. Explore your faith and beliefs but realize you may try to force them down other people’s throats, and it’s really none of your business what other people’s “truths” are. Give into your wanderlust and thirst for fun, but realize you may be seen as increasingly unreliable or immature by those in authority (your boss, parents, teachers, etc.) if you go too far! Experience new things but be cautious of excess in all areas. More is not necessarily better!

This progression is easy for everyone, but most enjoyable¬†for those with natal moon in another fire sign (Aries, Leo). It will be the most challenging for those with natal moon in another mutable sign (Gemini, Virgo, Pisces), but again, the “challenges” of this lunar progression are negligible compared to other phases. You may become disenfranchised with your daily life, like your job for example, or take a lot of risks you regret. Or you might say things too bluntly that hurt others, and regret putting your foot in your mouth. But your¬†likelihood of payoff and popularity is generally higher during this progression.
